One Plus 2 Smartphone 2016 Flagship Killer - Specifications and Review

After numerous leaks and hype-filled teasers, OnePlus 2 is finally official. The successor of OnePlus One features a magnesium frame and metal buttons. Both solutions are a drastic improvement over the company’s first generation smartphone.

Pricing of the OnePlus 2 kicks off at $329 for a model with 16GB of built-in memory. The 64GB top-end version will cost $389.

OnePlus 2 will have StyleSwap covers with various finishes. Black with sandstone finish will be the default choice out of the box.

As expected, OnePlus 2 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in memory. The handset’s display has remained unchanged in size and resolution from OnePlus One - it is a 5.5” 1080p unit. The latter is brighter and with more accurate color reproduction than the screen found in OnePlus One.

The camera of the smartphone is a 13MP unit with optical image stabilization, laser focus, and 1.3 µm pixels. A 5MP front-facing unit will be in charge of selfies.

The fingerprint sensor found in OnePlus 2 is said to be faster than the one found in iPhone 6. Users can store up to five fingerprints in the device. A 3,300mAh battery powers the handset.

USB Type-C is the standard connectivity port on OnePlus 2. There will be a bundled adapter which will allow users to take advantage of microUSB accessories. OnePlus 2 will also feature dual-nanoSIM functionality, as well as 4G LTE connectivity.

Once again OnePlus will require an invite for its latest smartphone. However, this time around the manufacturer promises that invites will be much easier to get a hold of due to larger inventory.

OnePlus 2 will be available to order in a number of key markets on August 11. More countries will get the device later this year.

Engineers Break the Speed Limit for Fiber-optic Transmission

Fiber optic networks are already the preferred choice for Internet connections in countries like USA and UK and following the trend, companies like MTNL and Airtel are offering fiber optic services to Indian consumers. Fiber-optics based Internet can usually transmit Internet speed ranging from 15 Mbps upto 100 Mbps in some countries.

Of late, there is a discussion going on among scientists and researchers on what will happen when fiber-optic cables reach their physical limits. In a matter of few years, the physical barrier of 100 TBps could be reached in five years and could easily break if services like 8K streaming and others become the standard.

It may look like that the Internet Apocalypse may soon end our days of trolling and killing time on 9GAG, but thankfully, it will not happen.

Engineers at UC San Diego’s Qualcomm Institute have successfully tested the limit of fiber-optic transmissions by increasing the power of optical signals almost twenty times the base level. To send the data faster, engineers usually increase the speed by adding more power, which can interfere with the data, scramble it and lead to a state where data is not being delivered at all.

Engineers used wideband “frequency combs” that conditioned streams of information before they were sent out, so that any interference that occurred along the way would be predicted. At the receiving end of the fiber, the information was unscrambled and fully restored.

As Nikola Alic of the Qualcomm Institute, a lead author on the paper, under which the experiment was carried out, puts it, “Today’s fiber optic systems are a little like quicksand. With quicksand, the more you struggle, the faster you sink. With fiber optics, after a certain point, the more power you add to the signal, the more distortion you get, in effect preventing a longer reach.” The team’s use of “frequency combs” will not only keep the signal going but will also allow distortion-free signal.

Internet will live on, after all

Top 10 Countries With the World's Fastest Internet

The internet is an absolute necessity for our generation. Everything we do, today, is connected to the Internet somehow or the other. For most of us, it is impossible to go through the day without scrolling through our Facebook feed or YouTube. With only a keyboard and mouse, we can access limitless amount of information.

But, with a slow Internet speed, there is nothing more irritating than waiting for a page to load. For the people living in the countries listed below, we’re guessing that they never have to use the word “buffer”.

Let us look at some countries with the fastest Internet connections:
#10 Finland

This year, Finland had a tremendous growth with a 33% increase in its Internet speed. Undoubtedly, one of the wealthiest countries of Europe, Finland also boasts a high quality of life and education.

Average Internet Speed: 12.1 Mbps

#9 Czech Republic

One of the developing countries in Europe, many people would argue that Czech Republic isn’t quite there yet. It’s simply not true. Czech Republic is one of the fastest growing European countries in the terms of economy. Just like its growth rate, the Internet facilities have developed by leaps in the past few years.

Average Internet Speed: 12.3 Mbps

#8 Ireland

Ireland has one of the fastest growing technology sectors in Europe. It has seen a growth of 24% in the last year.

Average Internet Speed: 12.3 Mbps

#7 Latvia

Latvia is perhaps the only country in this list, that many would never have heard of. This region has a rather dark past since was under, both, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union rule. But, it has been showing spectacular growth in all sectors. In the terms of Internet speed, Latvia has taken most of the countries by surprise. Internet speeds have grown 25% over the last year.

Average Internet Speed: 13 Mbps

#6 Netherlands

Netherlands is listed with Switzerland in holding the most broadband subscriptions per 100 subscriptions, has no bandwidth caps, and has the most homes passed in Europe in terms of connection speeds of 50 Mbps and higher. Government-mandated Internet censorship is non-existent due to the House of Representatives speaking out against filtering.

Average Internet Speed: 14.2 Mbps

#5 Switzerland

Switzerland, along with its beautiful landscapes, is also known for having one of the fastest Internet connections in the world. This country also boasts one of the highest number of Internet users in the world, with 85.2% of the population accessing the Internet every day.

Average Internet Speed: 14.5 Mbps

#4 Sweden

Moving up slowly, the Nordic nation of Sweden is also among the countries offering the highest internet speed. Sweden has best Internet speed in the whole of Europe, showing most year-over-year growth with 34 percent growth, 1 percent greater than next-door-neighbor, Finland. European countries surely have all the fun!

Average Internet Speed: 14.6 Mbps

#3 Japan

A customer looks at a web page of Qzone, a Chinese social networking site at an internet cafe in Changzhi, Shanxi province August 28, 2009. From virtual clothes to e-pets, Asians spend an estimated $5 billion a year on virtual purchases via websites such as Qzone, Cyworld in South Korea and mobile-phone based network Gree in Japan, according to Plus Eight Star. That's about 80 percent of the global market for virtual products, it says. To match feature ASIA-SOCIALNETWORKING/ REUTERS/Stringer (CHINA BUSINESS SOCIETY SCI TECH) CHINA OUT. NO COMMERCIAL OR EDITORIAL SALES IN CHINA

Known to the world as one of the leading digital giants, with companies like Sony, Toshiba, Nintendo, etc., fast Internet connections come naturally to this country. It maintains a reliable Internet speed that hardly seems to dwindle.

Average Internet Speed: 15.2Mbps
#2 Hong Kong

Another Asian country on the list, Hong Kong is first and only country that broke the 60 Mbps barrier back in 2013. This is due to advances in FTTH (Fiber To The Home) infrastructure and aggressive high-speed pricing, which now seems to be paying off.
Average Internet Speed: 16.8 Mbps

#1 South Korea

South Korea is the undisputed champion when it comes to Internet speed. The Internet connection here is so fast that the country is about to unveil its 10Gbps Internet service soon. The Internet has a higher standing for many Koreans than it does in the West, and the government actively encourages this. South Korea’s speed is roughly six times faster than the world average of 3.8 Mbps.

Average Speed: 22.2 Mbps

And the State Back Home..

Sadly, India comes in at number 52nd rank according to AkamaiTechnology in 2014 listing with an average speed of 2Mbps. But as a country, we are progressing at a great speed in the terms of economy and technology. With new businesses sprouting each day, the need for a connected economy has increased considerably. It’s time India should get high speed unlimited data plans.

OnePlus One now from $249 permanently, partners with Dropbox for promo

At the beginning of the month ,OnePlus began a special flash sale promotion, offering up the OnePlus One for just $250 for the 16GB model or $300 for the 64GB version. For those that were considering picking up the phone but missed out on the flash sales, the good news is that the new price is now permanent!

After receiving tons of positive feedback over the ultra-aggressive price tag, OnePlus said they took a “hard look at the numbers to make sure [they] were maintaining [their] commitment to users.” With dropping component, assembly, and engineering costs, OnePlus now feels comfortable with passing down the savings to its customers. n reality, the fact that the

In reality, the fact that the OnePlus 2 is likely just around the corner and newer devices like the ZenFone 2 and Idol 3 are increasing the competition in the low-end price segment probably have just as big as a role to play here. Regardless of OnePlus’ motivation, the new asking price is very welcome and certainly makes the OnePlus One stand out as one of the best values on the market today. OnePlus isn’t just dropping the pricing on the OnePlus One though, they are also introducing a new pricing option.

While you can get a 16GB OPO for $250 and a 64GB OPO for $300, a new $350 bundle will net you a 64GB OnePlus One and an entire year of Dropbox Pro. With the Dropbox Pro offer, you’ll get 1TB of secure 256-bit AES and SSL encrypted storage. While the option extends the amount of storage for accessing files on your phone, Dropbox Pro also will play nicely with your other mobile devices, Windows, Linux, and even Macs. Considering that Dropbox Pro normally costs $99 a year, this adds up to a saving of $50.

What do you think of the new OPO pricing, as well as the Dropbox Pro bundle? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

5 Reasons Why You Should Build Your Own Computer

5 Reasons Why You Should Build Your Own Computer

If you need a new desktop computer, you may be thinking of buying a pre-built machine from a manufacturer such as HP or Dell. However, there is another option – build your own. Enthusiasts have been doing this since PCs first hit the market, either to save money or just for the fun of it. Today, with cheap PCs available for $400 or less, some experts will tell you that there is no longer any reason to do it yourself. However, they are completely wrong. There are still many good reasons to build your own computer – and here are just a few.

1. Quality components

When you walk into your local big-box store and buy a desktop computer, it’s hard to know what you are really getting. Sure, you’ll see which CPU is in there and how much RAM, but do you really know where all of the components in the computer came from? More importantly, how good are they? The problem is that computer manufacturers are always looking for the best deal on the components they use. They get discounts from suppliers because of the volumes they purchase, but they still try to squeeze costs any way that they can. That means there’s no guarantee that the components in an off-the-shelf computer are up to scratch.

On the other hand, if you build your own computer, you can choose all of the components yourself. You can check out the specs and the reputation of each manufacturer, and then pick components that are going to last and perform. That extra peace of mind alone is worth the effort of doing it yourself.

2. Security

Bloatware is an issue with off-the-shelf computers, but let’s face it – with terabyte hard drives and gigs of memory, storage isn’t the issue that it once was. However, here’s the real concern – what exactly is that software getting up to? The answer might surprise you. Recently, Lenovo bundled Superfish with many of its consumer PCs, and it turns out that the adware posed a significant security risk. The lesson is this – you just don’t how dangerous that bundled software is. When you build your own computer, you know exactly what software you have installed, so you can avoid any backdoor security risks.

3. The operating system you want

Speaking of software, just about every desktop you can buy today comes with Windows 8 – and you are paying for that in the price of the computer. To put it mildly, Windows 8 wasn’t Microsoft’s finest moment, and things didn’t get much better with Windows 8.1. However, if you build your own computer, then you can install any operating system that you want. If you do want to use Windows, then you can install the far superior Windows 7, which should cost you less than $100 for an OEM copy. On the other hand, you can also choose from a number of different Linux variants – and these will cost you nothing at all.

4. Better warranties

When you buy a prebuilt desktop computer, you’re going to get a one-year warranty if you’re lucky. After that, the store will try to sell you an extended warranty at an exorbitant price. In other words you have to fork out big bucks for longer coverage or you’re on your own after 12 months.

On the other hand, if you buy quality components when you build your own computer, you should be able to get a much longer warranty. It’s not unusual to find RAM with a lifetime guarantee, and some power supplies will come with a seven-year warranty. You should even be able to get a three-year warranty on the CPU – the same CPU that you only get a one-year warranty on in the prebuilt machine.

5. High performance for less

If you only need a low-end desktop, then building your own probably isn’t going to save you any money – computer manufacturers can churn out cheap PCs for much less than you can. However, if you are looking for a performance machine, then it’s a different story. For instance, you can easily pay $2500 or more for a high-end gaming PC, and a similar amount for a powerful workstation. When you consider that you can get a high-end CPU – say an Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz – for about $300, and an absolutely top-end graphics card for about $600, then you still have $1600 left over for all the other pieces when you build it yourself. You’ll be hard pressed to spend that much. Not only that, you’ll be able to get exactly the performance machine you want – not just what someone else wants to sell you.
Resources for building your own computer

Building your own computer isn’t too difficult if you get the right parts and tools. There are many websites and videos on-line with step by step instructions on the whole process.

Today Microsoft launched its “most affordable Lumia” with its brand new budget smartphone Lumia 430. With this, Microsoft is continuously trying to gain more share of the low-end smartphone segment. At just a sum of $70, Lumia 430 is the cheapest Lumia yet.

If you want all the good features of the most advanced smartphone OS from Microsoft i.e. Windows 10, you don’t need to spend a large chunk of money. Lumia 430 comes with dual-SIM and unlocked functionality, which is a popular feature in emerging markets like India.

With an amount of $70, you will get a  4-inch WVGA screen, 8GB storage space (expandable with microSD card) and 1GB RAM. Lumia 430 is powered by a 1.2GHZ clocking dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor and 1500 mAH battery.

The camera provided at the back is 2-megapixel and 0.3-megapixel VGA camera for okayish selfies.

Lumia 430 will available in select regions: Asia-Pacific regions, Middle East, Russia, Africa, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. The phone will be available from April while the India launch is expected to be around the end of April. The cheapest Lumia 430 is expected to cost approximately Rs. 4,400 in India.

“People around the world have responded enthusiastically to our affordable Lumia range. We continue to invest in this segment to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy signature Microsoft experiences, regardless of budget,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president for Phones at Microsoft. “The Lumia 430 Dual SIM continues our commitment to combining the right hardware, software, services and apps with the right price to give people a smartphone they can afford and be proud to use.”

HTC One M9 vs Samsung Galaxy S6: Specs Comparison

The two big smartphone announcements at Mobile World Congress were the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9, both new flagships for the two companies.

Even though it is an uphill swing for both companies, currently facing a drop in sales throughout 2014, both devices look to be contenders for the best smartphone of the year, but which one is better?

Design
HTC has always had a profound vision when it comes to mobile design, continuing to iterate the metallic unibody ever since the launch of the One M7 two years ago. Samsung, on the other hand, has lacked the quality assurance to compete with Apple and HTC on design.

This all changes for Samsung in 2015, with the launch of a dual-glass Galaxy S6 with metal frame. It is a breath of fresh air from Samsung’s continued faux-leather and faux-metal design.

Even with all of the changes to the design on the Galaxy S6, the premium unibody on the HTC One M9 will always be a favorite for Android fans. The One M9 is less likely to crack since it is metal instead of glass, and looks absolutely gorgeous with a new two-tone palette for the back and front of the device.

Internals
The One M9 features a full HD (1920 x 1080) display, a bit lower than the Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display on the Galaxy S6. The AMOLED display does offer darker blacks on the Galaxy S6, but lacks the color accuracy that the One M9’s LCD display offers.

Internally, HTC has fitted the octa-core Snapdragon 810 to the One M9, one part clocked at 1.5GHz and the other at 2GHz. This is similar to Samsung’s octa-core Exynos processor, clocked around the same speed, but with a new 14-nanometer architecture.

The Exynos processor is smaller than the Snapdragon 810, and does not consume as much power. The final results may be minimal, but it is highly likely that the Exynos will win out in a raw power battle.

Both smartphones offer 3GB of RAM and quad-core graphics chips. The One M9 surpasses the Galaxy S6 when it comes to battery size, HTC fitting a 2840mAh battery to the Galaxy S6’s 2550mAh, but Samsung argues its new wireless charging is why it can afford a smaller battery.
HTC has finally decided to retire its Ultra Pixel sensor, following poor customer interest. Its replacement will be a 20-megapixel sensor, featuring a dual-LED flash.

Samsung has not changed much on its own camera, keeping the 16MP shooter from last year. It has added optical image stabilisation and f/1.9 lens, offering quicker focus and less blur on photos.

Megapixels are really not a big factor in the discussion of the best camera, considering Apple continues to knock it out of the ball-park with an 8MP iSight camera, and the Nokia Lumia 1020 did not make huge dents in the mobile camera market even with 41MP.

Instead, consistency and color accuracy should be looked into, and in both places Samsung beats the HTC by quite a large margin. Even though the One M9 is capable of a great photo, Samsung has a better opportunity of capturing good photos over an 100 picture period.

Software

Both providers offer Android Lollipop at launch, but both also reskin the OS. HTC launched Sense 7 on the One M9, while Samsung announced a new version of TouchWiz.

TouchWiz used to be the burden of Android for many mobile users, but Samsung has heavily redacted most of its ugly animations and bloatware. The Galaxy S6 comes running three Samsung apps: S Voice, S Health and Samsung Pay, alongside three Microsoft apps and Google’s services.

Sense 7 is a continuation on HTC’s software ideas, launching a new location based app launcher on the latest update. While in the past we would have easily went with Sense, the TouchWiz redesign does wonders for performance and offers a clean aesthetic.

Verdict

Both smartphones offer an incredible experience, but when it comes down to the best choice Samsung’s Galaxy S6 wins the battle in our opinion, offering better performance, higher display resolution, a fresh software redesign and consistent camera.
